How To Choose a Bow?

The most important part of any bow is the smart head of its owner.

So, you decided to join the archers squad, learn to shoot and hit the target with your eyes closed? To do this, you need to choose the right bow that will help to realize your dream.

Historians still can not give an unequivocal answer about the age of the bow, the oldest stone arrowhead for more than 60,000 years. Our ancestors used onions for hunting and for wars, and in the Middle Ages it even competed with firearms. Over time, the bow has faded into the background and is now increasingly used either for entertainment, or for sports, or for hunting. Undoubtedly, modern bows are far from their grandfathers and great-grandparents, but the main feature remained unchanged: the accuracy of the shot depends on the skill and skills of the owner.

What you need to know before buying onions:

First, you need to decide what you onion for and how much you are ready to give your wallet. In today's world there is a huge selection of bows, but they can be divided into three main types: traditional, classic and block bows. Each of them wins the heart in its own way and in order not to make a mistake, the ideal option will be to shoot from different types of onions and determine to which of them you have a soul. For example, in Minsk there is an opportunity to shoot from many types of bows in the shooting club "Archery Club".

Your first bow is not the last, and not the only one, if you are going to improve, over time there will be a desire to buy another, and maybe not even one. Therefore, at every opportunity learn about the bows all that is possible, try to shoot from them (with the permission of the owner, of course) to form an opinion about them.

You should also pay attention to the tension of the onion.

Do not rush to buy the strongest onion at 50-60 pounds, save your muscles, not every person will stretch such a bow, not to mention to constantly shoot from it. During the stretching of the onion work those muscles that we rarely use in everyday life, and if you can hardly hold the bow, all your attention will be focused only on the fight against the force of tension, and not on the correct technique of shooting. Do not forget, training requires multiple repetitions and a strong bow can simply "break you" and these are injuries and sprains, weeks, and even months of recovery. First, you need to build muscle, and for this start with 20-30 pounds (classic onion), 34-45 (block), 25-35 pounds (traditional).

Onions do not shoot. This will save you a lot of time to learn the right technique.

The length of the onion stretching plays a significant role in the selection of onions. Do not forget, the hands of most people of different lengths and buy one bow for the whole family - unreasonable. Compare the length of hands of the father, mother and child. Usually, traditional bows are produced at a standard stretching length of 28-30 inches. Korean bows designed for shooting with a ring have a slightly greater length of stretching, due to another tab - 30-32 inches. Remember that stretching the bow by a longer length than claimed by the manufacturer can cause it to break

Onions with a tension of more than 60 pounds (27 kg) are considered a weapon by law in RB and its storage requires a permit.

If you are attracted to traditional archery, then you probably already know that there are long bows (longbow) and short oriental bows. Long bows are better for initial mastering of the technique - they do not have a very high shot speed, but for beginners it is only a plus. Short bows less forgive errors in technique, require more time to master. Do not immediately take a bow made exclusively from natural materials. Firstly, they are much more expensive than bows made with modern technology, and secondly you will face a number of difficulties in their storage and use If you buy a bow - it should not be defects, the aunt should not have scaves, so that you do not have to change it in a week.

For fans of sports shooting, the manufacturers of bows have created a very wide range of composite sports bows. Here, fans face the problem of choosing which handle, which shoulders are better, whether to buy the entire system of stabilizers, etc. For beginners you can advise the following - do not chase the top models, even if you are not confused by their price. Take to begin with something quite budget, because even with the simplest model it is quite possible to protect the discharge of shooting up to the master of sports. Remember: any bow can be properly adjusted and it will shoot steadily, and hitting the target depends only on your skill.

Hunting in the territory of RB with a bow is allowed, but for the possession of a hunting bow (with a force of more than 60 pounds) it is necessary to issue a permit, and for hunting with it it is necessary to have an experience of possession of smooth-bore weapons at least 5 years.

This is not the case with block bows. Block onions are a high-tech product of engineering thought. It is not enough just to master the technique of shooting to get a high result. Owners of block bows know that very much depends on their correct setting. Now on the market there are a lot of quite cheap models of block bows of various little-known firms. Buying such a bow, you will inevitably face either difficulties in setting it up, or with the poor quality of making elements of mechanics. But even buying an expensive bow of a well-known company, you are not immune from such problems. So before you buy a block bow if possible consult with athletes practicing shooting from this type of onion (specialists), they will tell you more than the seller in the store.

Trust the opinion of professionals, but do not rely on it entirely. Each of us is unique and what is suitable for one may not be acceptable to the other. Before buying a bow, try to find an opportunity to make a couple of shots out of it. It is possible that, despite all the assurances of the seller or the master, shooting from this bow for you will not be comfortable for some reason, and therefore, you will lose time to master it.

Another factor that is often noticed is the external design of the bow. Many arrows proudly show their bow, when shooting they enjoy its view, and photos with it cause delight. So it can happen to you - you saw the bow of a certain model and now dream only of it. But if you get a chance to choose between two roughly identical bows, make your choice in favor of the one that you aesthetically like. You will get from shooting at times more fun, holding a bow, which you are proud of!
